"Scorpion" — Ukraine's Sole System for Testing Fire Pumps
Within our Institute, this purpose-built measuring manifold is informally known as the "Scorpion" due to the shape of its design. Currently, it is the only development of its kind in Ukraine.
The test rig is designed to measure the performance of fire pumps within a flow rate range of up to 200 l/s, which is a key metric when verifying the efficiency of firefighting equipment.
The manifold design allows for the connection of various types of fire and rescue machinery. This renders it a versatile tool for testing rescuers' fire engineering equipment, particularly fire pumps, nozzles, and hose dividers.
At present, the rig is used for the preliminary assessment of pump performance for equipment delivered to the units of the SES of Ukraine. Moving forward, plans are underway to incorporate it into a comprehensive test bench (in accordance with DSTU EN 1028 standards) and to utilise it for scientific research into hydraulic parameters.
Developed by specialists from the Civil Protection Research Institute of the NUCEU, the "Scorpion" clearly demonstrates how scientific research translates into practical solutions that enhance the operational efficiency of emergency rescuers.
